DTI concessionary fuel scheme

12 Apr 2006

Capita Insurance Services today announced that it has successfully renewed its contract with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to administer the National Concessionary Fuel Scheme.

The scheme provides allowances of solid fuel or cash in lieu of fuel to 112,000 former employees of British Coal.

The contract, which is worth nearly £6 million over a five year period (with an option for an additional two years), will begin in April 2006. Capita was awarded the contract following a rigorous procurement process involving a shortlist of two other companies.

Richard Holland, Managing Director, Claims Outsourcing, Capita Insurance Services, commented: “We are delighted that the DTI has made the decision to reselect Capita. We are looking forward to working closely with our colleagues at the Department to further enhance the service we provide.”

Richard Lowe, Contract Manager, DTI said “The extensive experience of the Capita team was a key factor in the renewal decision. We were particularly impressed with the team’s suggested approach to a full technology upgrade for the scheme, in which the Department is investing as part of the contract renewal.”

The service will continue to be delivered from offices based in Sheffield.
